Volunteer and boyFundacion Madre Teresa: Vocational Training Center for Adults with Mental Illness and Learning Disabilities

This is a private non-profit foundation for adults with intellectual disabilities. They operate April through January and are devoted to running workshops for adults, who for the most cases have been in special ed schools and have finished their 12 years of schooling as prescribed by the law. They have a morning and an afternoon session of vocational training such as basket weaving, ceramics, making leather bracelets, recycling paper etc. They are always short of personnel as the majority of their clients come from families with financial limitations. Volunteers at this organization should be prepared to work with adults with challenging behavior who could be aggressive or have difficulties following commands.
