Training Center for Abused Women

women in kitchen

This foundation offers occupational training for women who have been abused or prostitutes who want to change their lifestyles.  Women can come to this center for training in dress-making, beauty, hand crafts, bakery, first aid, kitchen aid (cooking) and information science.

The Maria Droste Center is licensed to grant middle school diplomas. This is the compulsory level of education required by local law.  Many emotional and physical factors must be considered when working with women of this position.  Often they have been out of school for many years and must relearn academic information as well as functional duties on a daily basis.  The women of this center are eager to make positive changes in their lives and are very hospitable to volunteers and interns willing to help their efforts.

Details

The foundation welcomes volunteers and interns interested in helping the lives of these women who desire a better life for themselves and their families.  Volunteers and Interns with interest or a background in social work, English language, computers, office work and counseling are encouraged to participate in the efforts of this foundation. Participants may be involved in any of these areas as needed or desired working directly with the women. An important role of participants will be to assist the women as they transition into a better lifestyle. Daily activities may include teaching English courses, computer training, and even teaching the women how to take care of their bodies and stay healthy.

Dates: Interns and Volunteers can be placed throughout the year.
